Atseinio Young Leaders

By engaging with young people through our various programmes and working youth music organisations through our Atsain network, Anthem has identified the following challenges:

  1. There is a lack of paid opportunities for young people within the Welsh music community, leading to gaps on CVs, low confidence and unclear progression routes.
  2. Welsh youth music organisations often don’t have the capacity or resources to offer a paid work experience opportunity, meaning that they often miss having youth leadership at the forefront of their team.

We believe in order for the youth music ecosystem to thrive, young people need to be given the opportunity to lead and have their voices heard. To ensure the future of the Welsh music community, we need to have well prepared and confident young people to lead one day and now is the time to futureproof that legacy.

In response to these challenges, we’ve created the Atseinio Young Leaders programme. It includes 55 paid hours of work experience (split between Anthem and a youth music organisation of their choice), a £500 budget to be spent on training and £400 to put on an event for their music community. Participants will meet regularly and be supported by Anthem throughout.

The first pilot iteration of the programme will support 5 young people and 5 organisations, starting in August 2026 and wrapping up in January 2027.
