Nurture

The Nurture Programme is an initiative supporting 14–21-year-olds facing social, financial, or geographical barriers to music. Its mission is to make music accessible to every young person in Wales, helping them build confidence, skills, and creative pathways.

In 2024 Anthem piloted Nurture, Wales’ only music development programme for 14–21 year olds facing barriers to progression. The results were transformative.

Building on this success, we aim to deliver a 3-year Nurture programme, removing financial, geographical and social barriers for 60 talented young people to pursue their music ambitions.

In Wales, where 28% of children live in relative poverty, programmes like Nurture provide a vital route to confidence, aspiration and resilience.

From 2026–2029, Nurture will support 60 young people across Wales. Each year, 20 participants are selected with ten grassroots partners who identify those most at risk of exclusion. The programme offers financial backing, one-to-one mentoring, and peer networking through the Nurture Network, culminating in an annual showcase

By combining national reach with local expertise, Nurture removes barriers, empowers young musicians, and strengthens community organisations. It encourages established artists to reinvest in the next generation, creating a more inclusive, thriving Welsh music scene and inspiring confidence, resilience, and creativity in every participant.
